Well Pressure Tanks

Get city water pressure and flow with well water quality, with well pressure tanks

Well water systems can be an adjustment if you're used to the consistent pressure and flow of public water systems.

Pressure tanks store water under pressure at a set PSI, ensuring a steady and reliable flow at the tap.

Additionally, they can reduce wear on the well pump by reducing the pump cycle rate, reducing maintenance costs over time.

Choosing the Right Size and Pressure for Your Well Tank

Not all pressure tanks are created equal, and choosing the wrong size can lead to short cycling, pump strain, or poor water pressure.

At Summers Well Drilling, we size your pressure tank based on your well’s flow rate, your pump size, and the water demand in your home or operation.

Common Sizes We Install:

20-40 gallon tanks for cabins, small homes, or low-use setups 40-60 gallon tanks for average households or light farm use 80+ gallon tanks for large homes, irrigation systems, or higher draw demand

In most cases, the "gallon" rating reflects total tank volume, not usable drawdown. Actual water storage between pump cycles is usually 30-50% of total volume depending on pressure settings.

Pressure Switch Settings

We typically install tanks with pressure switch ranges like:

30/50 psi - common in residential systems 40/60 psi - provides higher pressure for homes with more fixtures or long pipe runs 50/70 psi or higher - used for specialty applications or multi-building systems

The right pressure range is a balance between comfort (at the tap), pump performance, and the pressure tank’s usable storage.

If your well pump cycles too frequently or your pressure seems inconsistent, your tank may be undersized or your switch settings may need adjustment. We can evaluate your system and recommend upgrades if needed.
